Walt Disney World's Epcot - Spaceship Earth

Walt Disney World’s Epcot

March 12, 2020

Walt Disney World’s Epcot is a travel destination like no other. Journey through time and space, as you enter a Park that celebrates the joy of imagination and the cultures of the world.

Disney has recently announced that Walt Disney World’s Epcot is undergoing a multi-year transformation. The existing Park is broadly divided into two areas: Future World and World Showcase. The changes will see Future World grow into three neighbourhoods – World Celebration, World Discovery and World Nature. These will build on the existing parts of Epcot, while Disney propose to add exciting new experiences, and to make the Park ‘even more Disney, more interactive and more immersive.’ We, for one, can’t wait to see what the future holds for Epcot!

While we wait in anticipation of the exciting new developments, our guide to Walt Disney World’s Epcot below is based on the existing Park that we know and love.

Future World

Enter Epcot and begin your journey through Future World towards the towering icon that is Spaceship Earth. If you’re not power walking through the Park after rope drop, take time to walk between the pink granite monoliths. On these you’ll see the legacies of guests from the turn of the last century.

NB. These monoliths will be moving to a new location just outside the Park’s gateway as part of changes that will be made to the entrance area.

Following the gentle ride of Spaceship Earth, delve into the depths of the ocean in the coral reefs. Enjoy the family fun of Turtle Talk with Crush, and explore The Seas with Nemo & Friends. Alternatively, feel the wind in your face and smell the sweet rose scents of the Taj Mahal as you go Soarin’ Around the World.

Next, return to nature on Living with the Land as you take a gentle boat cruise that explores the history of farming. Whilst here, taste the freshly grown crops from the greenhouses of the Land Pavilion as you enjoy a meal in Sunshine Seasons or The Garden Grill.

Finally, enjoy a Journey Into Imagination With Figment, before the thrills of Test Track and Mission: SPACE. From the depths of the ocean to the heights of outer space, there’s so much to explore in Future World at Walt Disney World’s Epcot!

World Showcase

After exploring Future World, next experience the wonder and cultures of 11 countries as you stroll around World Showcase Lagoon. Featuring:

  • Mexico;
  • Norway;
  • China;
  • Germany;
  • Italy;
  • United States;
  • Japan;
  • Morocco;
  • France;
  • United Kingdom; and
  • Canada.

From scenic boat rides to local delicacies and breathtaking shows World Showcase is a wonder for the senses. Marvel at the contrasting sights, sounds and scents as you stroll from one Country to another. Explore scenic architecture, savour authentic flavours and take in live displays of artistry and skill. Who needs to travel the World when Disney can present it to you?

Top Tip: Take time to stop and talk to the Cast Members in each Country; they are not actors but representatives of their Country, with experiences and tales to tell.

The Attractions

Character Meet ‘n’ Greets

From Dining with Chip ‘n’ Dale to meeting that special Disney Princess, Disney’s Epcot is the perfect place to make memories with your favourite characters.

Epcot has two character dining destinations; Garden Grill Restaurant and Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. At The Garden Grill enjoy family-style buffet dining as you meet Chip ‘n’ Dale and their Disney friends. Here you’ll sample some of the fresh produce grown in the greenhouses of the Land Pavillion while the restaurant revolves, giving wonderful views of Living with the Land. Meanwhile, at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall you’ll enjoy Storybook Dining with Disney Princesses over a buffet breakfast, lunch or dinner.

You can also meet characters at designated meet and greet spots; in World Showcase meet Mulan in China, Belle in France, or Anna and Elsa in Norway. Meanwhile, Ralph, Vanellope, Pluto and Joy can be found in Future World.

Top tip: FastPasses are available for many of these meet and greets!

Shows

Experience the artistry and skill of the Jeweled Dragon Acrobats in China, the booming sound of the Taiko drummers in Japan, or the joy of a mariachi band in Mexico. With live performances around World Showcase you’ll always find something to stop and take in with wonder.

Finally, round off your journey with the night time spectacular ‘Epcot Forever’. Watch in wonder as the past, present and future of Epcot is celebrated with fireworks and special-effects.

Top tip: check the My Disney Experience App, online, or the Times Guide (available in the Park) for full details and performance times.
